Rivian is expanding beyond electric vehicles. The company’s new spin-off brand, Also, has officially launched its first product: the TM-B (Transcendent Mobility Bike), a high-performance e-bike designed for urban commuters who demand range, speed, and smart connectivity.
Two Battery Options for Different Needs
The TM-B comes in two configurations to match different riding styles and distances. The Standard Battery packs 538Wh of capacity, delivering up to 60 miles of range on a single charge. For those who need more, the Large Battery option offers 808Wh and extends range to an impressive 100 miles.
Both configurations support the same top speed of 28 mph, making this a Class 3 e-bike suitable for faster commutes and longer rides.
Pedal-by-Wire Technology
One of the standout features of the TM-B is its pedal-by-wire system. This technology, borrowed from automotive engineering, replaces traditional mechanical drivetrains with electronic control. The result is precise power delivery, customizable pedal assist levels, and the potential for future software enhancements through over-the-air updates.
Smart Features and Connectivity
The TM-B isn’t just about getting from point A to point B. It includes a 5-inch display that serves as the command center for the bike, offering:
- App connectivity for ride tracking and customization
- Built-in navigation to guide your routes
- Audio control for music and calls
- Over-the-air updates to improve performance and add features over time
A Battery That Does Double Duty
Perhaps the most practical innovation is the removable battery design. When you’re not riding, the battery can be detached and used as a USB-C power bank, making it a versatile power source for phones, laptops, and other devices. This feature adds value beyond the bike itself and solves the common problem of where to charge your devices during longer rides or commutes.
Pricing and Availability
Also is launching with three versions of the TM-B:
The Launch Edition starts at $4,500 and is available for purchase now. Deliveries are expected to begin in Spring 2026. This edition likely includes premium features and exclusive colorways for early adopters.
Standard and Performance versions are currently open for reservation, though pricing and specific specifications for these models haven’t been announced yet.
What This Means for the Industry
Rivian’s move into micromobility through Also signals a broader trend in the electric vehicle space. As cities become more congested and the demand for sustainable transportation grows, traditional EV manufacturers are looking beyond cars and trucks.
E-bikes represent a natural extension of the electrification mission. They solve last-mile transportation challenges, reduce carbon emissions, and offer a more accessible price point than full-sized electric vehicles. For Rivian, this could be a way to reach urban customers who may not need a full R1T or R1S but still want high-quality electric transportation.
The question now is whether other EV makers will follow suit. With Tesla’s Cybertruck already pushing boundaries in design and GM investing heavily in electric mobility, the micromobility space could become the next battleground for automotive innovation.
Final Thoughts
The Also TM-B represents an ambitious entry into the e-bike market. With impressive range, smart features, and the backing of Rivian’s engineering expertise, it has the potential to compete with established players like Specialized, Trek, and VanMoof.
Whether consumers will embrace a $4,500 e-bike from a new brand remains to be seen, but the specs suggest Also is serious about making a mark in urban transportation.
What do you think? Is this the future of commuting, or are traditional bikes and cars here to stay?
